Agronomic Zn Biofortification of Cereal Crops a Sustainable Way to Ensuring Nutritional Security: A Review

چکیده

Nutritional deficits in humans and animals constitute a hidden epidemic many impoverished areas across the world. The staple foods of developing South Asian African nations, such as rice, wheat, maize, are poor micronutrients. In recent past, lack food diversification i.e., cereal-based crops low minerals, is another danger to nutritional quality security. Because inherently low-level accumulation nutrients cereal crops, they primary target for bio-fortification among all crops. Among different micronutrients, zinc (Zn) an important micronutrient that plays vital role variety physiological functions, its scarcity will result lower crop yields productivity. Agronomic practices like application fertilizers soil, nutri-priming, foliar spray etc. enhance availability uptake Zn As result, growth development, parameters yield attributes enhanced significantly. Therefore, agronomic biofortification utmost achieve Furthermore, boosted productivity alleviate hunger, addition aspects, proving be sustainable cost-effective strategy. With soil fertiliser applications, including amendments, interventions boost concentration this review importance procedure improve agricultural solution solve security challenges discussed.

Biofortification in Millets: A Sustainable Approach for Nutritional Security

Nutritional insecurity is a major threat to the world's population that is highly dependent on cereals-based diet, deficient in micronutrients. Next to cereals, millets are the primary sources of energy in the semi-arid tropics and drought-prone regions of Asia and Africa. Millets are nutritionally superior as their grains contain high amount of proteins, essential amino acids, minerals, and vi...

Biofortification of cereals with zinc and iron through fertilization strategy

Zinc (Zn) and iron (Fe) deficiencies are well-documented public health issue and an important soil constraint to crop production. Generally, there is a close geographical overlap between soil deficiency and human deficiency of Zn and Fe, indicating a high requirement for increasing concentrations of micronutrients in food crops. Breeding new plant genotypes for high grain concentrations of Fe a...

Nutrient biofortification of food crops.

Plant-based foods offer an array of nutrients that are essential for human nutrition and promote good health. However, the major staple crops of the world are often deficient in some of these nutrients. Traditional agricultural approaches can marginally enhance the nutritional value of some foods, but the advances in molecular biology are rapidly being exploited to engineer crops with enhanced ...
